Additional Information
In 1851, Charles was living in Godalming, but a few months later he was living at 4 Page Street Westminster, when he married Harriet Jackson, the daughter of a Grocer. At the time of his marriage he was a Railway Guard, but quickly rose through the ranks to Inspector of Railways by 1859. In 1881, he was the Assistant Station Master at Farnborough, and by 1891 he had become the Station Master.
When he married, Charles described his father as a Yeoman; like his younger brother, William, he had decided to bend the truth slightly, since he was marrying well away from home!
In the 1891 census, Charles was a widower living with George and Fanny and niece Gertrude BROWN - I think this should have been granddaughter, since Gertrude appears in the 1881 census in Finchley with her parents Mary Jane and Samuel Brown (and aunt Georgina!).
