Additional Information

Nathaniel appeared in Almondbury in 1832, marrying Mary Ann Wood, and founded a dynasty of Stonemasons. Nathaniel claimed, on several censuses, that he was born in Dewsbury, and the IGI certainly shows a Nathaniel BREAR born there in 1811. Despite the fact that his parents married in Dewsbury, their eldest son, George, was born in Almondbury, but the remaining children were baptised in Dewsbury.

In the 1841 Census, Nathaniel and family lived at Broken Cross Almondbury, and in 1851 at Longley. By 1861, they had moved to Almondbury Bank, Moldgreen; and in 1881 they were living at Ravensknowle Road Kirkheaton, next door to son William, and only a couple of houses away from son Joshua.
