Additional Information

Dinah bore an illegitimate son, George, on 8 Jul 1840 at Tadley. Her father, Richard, registered the child. A few days before, another George Rampton had been born, legitimately, in Tadley, and had been baptised on 12 Jul 1840 there, just three days before the baptism of Dinah's son. This has caused some confusion, because in 20 Jul 1840, a 3 week-old George Rampton was buried at Tadley, which could have been either of the Georges born in Tadley but was probably Dinah's, because 5 years later she again bore a son called George. This George was baptised on 10 Aug 1845 at MS, and, on 26 May 1847 Dinah married David SMITH, son of Joseph Smith, at Baughurst. In the 1851 Census, they are shown as living in Baughurst, David being 27 and Dinah 29, and George is shown as George SMITH, aged 6, born in Tadley (this age fits more closely with the George born in 1845). In 1881, Dinah and David are still together, living in Holly Bush Lane Baughurst, David is now 60 and Dinah 63. George still lives with his parents, is still called George Smith, and is described as 35, unmarried, and a general labourer born in Tadley. Also living at home is daughter Kate E. Smith, aged 15, born in Baughurst.

Dinah died and was buried on 2 May 1887 at Baughurst, and David SMITH remarried on 4 Aug 1890 at Baughurst. He was 67 and a widower, and his bride was Mary Ann LAMPORT, a 60 year old widow whose maiden name had been LOVELOCK.

Dinah als bore an illegitimate daughter, Jane, in 1843. When Jane married 20 years later, she gave her father's name as David SMITH, thereby confirming her place in this family.
