In 1861, Stephen was living at Farm Cottage Whitchurch with his first wife Jane, and their new baby; Stephen was a Gardener, and Jane a Papersorter in Mill. Jane was the daughter of shepherd William SMITH, and in 1871, when Stephen remarried, he took as his second wife one of her sisters, Eliza. In 1971, Stephen was living in the attractively-named Mud Town, Andover, with four daughters and a fairly new wife, Eliza. In the 1881 census, Stephen was living in Thruxton with Eliza and children Jane and Lydia; Edith was a servant in Thruxton; Alice was a servant in Wherwell.
In 1901, Lydia was living On her own means in Upper Clatford; Alice was a cook in Lymington, HAM.
