I traced
John BRYER, at that time living in London, back to his origins in Hadleigh, and came across the family of
William BRYER, maltster and gentleman. William founded a small dynasty which gave rise to the company William Bryer & Sons, silversmiths. During John's lifetime, the company was based in the Barbican, in the City of London, but since the building of the Barbican centre in the 1960s (Bryer Court, one of the blocks of flats, is named after the company), it has moved to Hatton Garden, also in the City.
