Additional Information

In the 1841 Census, Joseph was living with his parents in Tufton. In 1851, he was an unmarried servant in Wherwell. In 1861, Joseph, Emily and four of their children were living at "Chapmans", Sonning. There is some uncertainty about the year of William's birth, since his age in 1861 was given as 4 years (i.e. born in 1857), whereas in 1881 he is shown as 29 years (i.e. born in 1852). Unfortunately, I cannot as yet confirm either date from the GRO Indexes. In 1871, the family was still living in Eye & Dunsden, but only four children were listed, Martha, Rhoda, Louisa and Joseph. In the 1881 census, Joseph and family are to be found living in Park View Cottage, Tilehurst, on the outskirts of Reading, BRK, whilst daughter Rhoda was a servant living closeby in Tilehurst. In 1891, they were living in Caversham, but only Joseph was living with his parents.
